Since 2016, Hublot and Berluti, known for their extraordinary technology and endless creativity, have worked together intimately. Today, the two sides have further interpreted the ‘art of fusion’ and launched the fourth edition-the special limited edition of the classic fusion chronograph Berluti. The new watch is available in titanium and bronze versions with Venezia cold brown and cold gold leather straps. From June 19 to July 20, 2019, the new watches will be sold exclusively in Japan (Isetan Department Stores, Ginza, Osaka, and Kyoto stores) and boutiques in New York, USA, and then launched to the global market.
To Olga Berluti, nothing is more beautiful than a leather shoe that fades over time. ‘This has its own soul,’ she said. ‘We enjoy the challenge of transforming it into the world of watchmaking. Transferring two of Berluti’s iconic features, patina and Scritto symbols to the case is an exciting experience. . ‘
OlgaBerluti specializes in the development of finishing techniques for essential oils and pigments, giving shoes a unique personality, regardless of time and color rules. Scritto is also one of Berluti’s signatures, originally referring to an 18th-century French letter that Olga Berluti bought at an auction. Handwritten text lines have become a symbol of this series, and also a symbol of handmade. Encapsulating Venetian leather, a natural material, in a waterproof case is a technological feat in itself. Hublot’s next challenge is to find a way to replace traditional leather with metal-a material with completely different physical properties-and infuse Berluti’s soul into the case.
The new watch has a built-in HUB1143 self-winding chronograph movement. From the strap to the dial, it shows infinite autumnal gradients and contrasting light and shadow. Hublot’s new classic fusion chronograph Berluti Special Edition is sold with a custom case, which includes a complete Berluti leather care set.
