When Chanel came out in 2000, it set off a storm in the watchmaking world. This watch made of black precision ceramic is a new classic of the 21st century watch and opened the modern watchmaking. A new chapter in the world. At this year’s Basel watch exhibition, Chanel launched a new J12 watch. Arnaud Chastaingt, director of Chanel’s creative studio, reinterpreted the J12 watch, following the essence of this classic watch design, but made some more. Adjustments and changes are presented to us with a new look. Let’s take one of Chanel’s new models as an example to enjoy its glory.
The original intention of Chanel J12 was that Chanel’s former artistic director Jacques Hailu wanted to create a watch for himself. He took inspiration from his favorite racing and sailing. The streamlined design of the racing car and the simple and pure lines of the J12 sailing boat made the final J12 watch. This pure black watch has a timeless classic design and is extremely sporty.
Watch real shot
The watch has a diameter of 38 mm and is just the right size. The model adopts a one-piece precision ceramic case. The thickness of the case has increased slightly, while still maintaining the smooth lines of the J12 watch. Because of its rounder outline, the case has no weight.
The bezel design has been slightly modified. The grooves on the edges have been increased from 30 to 40, which makes the dial appear wider. The number and time scale on the bezel have been redesigned.
The crown on the side is made of stainless steel and inlaid with ceramic, which echoes the shape of the case.
The watch uses a black dial, and the font of the digital scale is redesigned by Chanel Watch Creative Studio, which is more beautiful and delicate, with exquisite slim hands. The hour and minute hands are the same width and covered with Superluminova.
The bracelet adopts a new bracelet design with slightly extended chain links, which complements the rounded polished case, highlighting the slim and smart overall shape.
The watch is equipped with a caliber 12.1 self-winding mechanical movement. This movement is specially made by Swiss watchmaker Kenissi. It has been certified by the Swiss Official Observatory (COSC) and can provide 70 hours of power reserve. The bottom of the watch is designed to be transparent so that the movement of the movement can be seen at a glance.
The classic design of the J12 watch continues to this day, and has been renewed in the years. It also does not forget to innovate in the classics, bringing us one after another beautiful timepieces. The classic is never out of date, and it is perfect for Chanel J12.
